About Michael
I began my artistic journey over thirty years ago in undergrad at Warren Wilson College in Swannanoa North Carolina. I studied ceramics in the Professional Crafts Program at Haywood Community College, and ran my own production pottery studio and gallery in Waynesville North Carolina for a couple of years. After bouncing back and forth between these pursuits for seven years, I graduated from Warren Wilson with the first degree in three dimensional art ever conveyed by the College.
I went to graduate school at East Carolina University where I discovered the thrill of metal casting and steel fabrication. In grad school I was fortunate to be able to explore large scale fabrication and had opportunities to travel internationally and make art in Finland, Latvia, Estonia, Russia, and Indonesia.
After receiving my MFA in sculpture in 2003 I took a position as Studio Manager/Ceramics & Sculpture Instructor at the Art Association in Jackson Wyoming. There taught classes, hung shows in the gallery, oversaw studio operations, and helped oversee the building of a new multi-million dollar studio art center.
In 2006 I moved to Jacksonville Florida to join the faculty at Florida State College at Jacksonville. I currently teach all aspects of 3-D art including ceramics, sculpture, design, and digital fabrication.
Since I thrive on an ever changing series of artistic challenges, my artistic endeavors for the past twenty years have included large scale sculpture commissions, production ceramics, glass blowing, printmaking, collaborative interdisciplinary projects, 3-D printing, and cosplay/prop making.
